Is Your Website Helping You Win Work Or Costing You Enquiries?

A straightforward two-minute read for construction and related businesses

If your website hasn’t been updated for a few years, there’s a good chance it’s quietly costing you enquiries.

Not because you’re bad at what you do.

Not because your competitors are better.

Because people decide very quickly whether your business feels like the right one to contact.

The good news is that it usually doesn’t take a complete redesign to give people more confidence in your business.

Your Website Represents Your Business

For many construction and related businesses, a website isn’t there to generate hundreds of enquiries every month.

Its job is much simpler than that.

It gives people confidence in your business before they ever speak to you.

A recommendation often leads to a website visit.

A Google search often leads to a website visit.

Someone who has seen one of your vans or signs often ends up looking at your website before getting in touch.

Before they contact you, they’re quietly asking themselves questions like:

  • What exactly do they do?
  • Do they look professional?
  • Have they done similar work before?
  • Can I trust them?
  • How do I get in touch?

A good website answers those questions quickly.

When people feel confident they’ve found the right business, they’re much more likely to enquire.

People Naturally Compare Businesses

Imagine you’ve been recommended alongside another business.

Both of you have a good reputation.

Both can do the job.

Before making contact, the customer visits both websites.

One immediately explains what they do, shows recent work, looks professional and makes it easy to get in touch.

The other feels dated, lacks information or no longer reflects the quality of the business.

Which one is likely to get the first phone call?

That doesn’t necessarily mean one business is better than the other.

It simply means one business gave the customer more confidence to make the first phone call.

People naturally place more trust in businesses that look established, organised and professional online.

That’s just human nature.

People Buy Confidence Before They Buy Your Service

Nobody phones a business because they admire its website.

They get in touch because the website gives them confidence they’ve found the right company.

A good website won’t win you every job.

But it can be the reason somebody contacts you before they contact your competitor.

That’s an important difference.

For many businesses, the website isn’t there to sell.

It’s there to give people enough confidence to enquire.

Five Reasons Good Websites Generate More Enquiries

Explain what you do

People shouldn’t have to work it out.

Within a few seconds they should understand your services, the type of work you carry out and how to contact you.

Show the quality of your work

Good photographs of real projects build confidence far quicker than paragraphs describing your business.

They show people you’ve done this type of work before.

Build confidence

Tell people how long you’ve been established.

Show testimonials.

Explain the type of work you specialise in.

Help visitors feel they’ve found the right business.

The less uncertainty people feel, the more likely they are to get in touch.

Make it easy to get in touch

Your phone number, email address and enquiry form should be easy to find.

Once someone has decided to contact you, don’t make them search for how.

Keep it up to date

Your business changes over time.

Your website should change with it.

Recent projects, updated services and current information all help show that your business is active and professional.

An up-to-date website gives people confidence that the business behind it is active and thriving.

How I Work

Most of the businesses I work with are busy running their companies.

They’re on site, meeting customers, pricing work and managing projects.

They don’t have time for endless meetings or complicated website projects.

I don’t expect you to write pages of content or spend hours explaining your business.

I’ll ask the right questions, guide you through the process and keep everything moving while you carry on running your business.

That’s why I keep everything as straightforward as possible.

My aim is simple.

To build a website that gives the right people confidence to enquire without turning the project into another job for you.

What’s Included

Every website is built around your business and typically includes:

  • A bespoke WordPress website
  • Mobile-friendly design
  • Contact forms
  • Project galleries
  • Easy-to-update pages
  • Google Maps integration where appropriate
  • Social media links
  • On-page SEO included as standard

That means every page is structured correctly for Google, with page titles, descriptions, image optimisation and other on-page SEO fundamentals already in place.

What Does A Website Usually Cost?

One of the biggest myths is that a professional website has to cost several thousand pounds.

For most brochure websites, it simply doesn’t.

In reality, many of the brochure websites I build fall somewhere between £695 and £995, depending on what’s required.

Some projects cost less.

Some cost more.

The important thing is recommending what’s appropriate for the business, rather than selling the most expensive solution.

The aim isn’t to spend as little as possible.

It’s to have a website that wins enough additional work to comfortably justify the investment.

If you’re wondering whether your current website is doing these things, feel free to get in touch. I’ll happily give you an honest opinion and tell you what I’d improve, what I’d leave exactly as it is and whether I genuinely think it’s worth changing.

Thinking About Updating Your Website?

If you’ve recognised your own business while reading this, feel free to get in touch.

I’ll tell you honestly whether I think your website is helping you win work or quietly costing you enquiries.

If it is…

I’ll explain why.

If it isn’t…

I’ll tell you that as well.

Sometimes the answer is a new website.

Sometimes it’s a few simple improvements.

Sometimes I’ll tell you to leave it exactly as it is.

Either way, you’ll get an honest opinion.

And if your website is doing its job, but enquiries are still inconsistent…

A good website helps you win more of the enquiries you already have.

LinkedIn helps you create more of them in the first place.

I’ve put together a separate 2-minute guide on creating more consistent enquiry opportunities using a straightforward LinkedIn DM system, supported by posts that keep you visible.
